SIS/Managing Your Enrollment - Wait List Course Setup Expectations

Overview

Following are numerous course setups and what may occur with the wait list functionality.

Lectures Only

Student enrolled for a Lecture:

Allowed to wait list for student's maximum term credit limit (no shared component).

  • Undergraduate students can be on up to 18 credits of wait-listed classes in the Fall and Spring terms and up to 12 credits of wait-listed classes in Summer term. Enrolled credits do not count against the maximum number of wait-listed credits.
  • Graduate students (not yet dissertating) can be on up to 15 credits of wait-listed classes in the Fall and Spring terms and up to 12 credits of wait-listed classes in Summer term. Enrolled credits do not count against the maximum number of wait-listed credits.
  • Other types of students also follow the maximum number of enrolled credits allowed for their program.

Student not enrolled for any Lecture:

Allowed to wait list for student's maximum term credit limit (no shared component).

  • Undergraduate students can be on up to 18 credits of wait-listed classes in the Fall and Spring terms and up to 12 credits of wait-listed classes in Summer term. Enrolled credits do not count against the maximum number of wait-listed credits.

One Lecture with Multiple Required Discussions

  • Discussions and lecture are required.
  • Discussions are the enrollment component and the graded component.
  • Discussions auto-enroll into the lecture.
  • The lecture association number must be 9999.
  • The discussion section number and association number must match (i.e. DIS 301 and Assoc. 301).
  • Any discussion could be honors.

Student enrolled for Discussion and Lecture:

  • Not allowed to wait list any other section.
  • Error Received = You are already enrolled in this class, class not added. The enrollment request was not processed, an enrollment record already exists for the class and term specified. Verify class number and term, and resubmit the request.

Student not enrolled:

  • Allowed to wait list for one section.
  • Error received on second section attempt.
    Error Received = You are already wait-listed in class XXXXX. You are already wait-listed for this related component.

One-To-One Correlation between Lectures and Discussions

  • Lecture is the graded component.
  • Discussion is required.
  • Discussion is the enrollment component.
  • The discussion section number and association number must match (i.e. DIS 301 and Assoc. 301). The association number must also be the same for the corresponding lecture (i.e. LEC 001 and Assoc. 301).
  • Any discussion/lecture package could be honors.

Student enrolled for Discussion and Lecture:

Allowed to wait list for student's maximum term credit limit (no shared component).

One Lecture with Multiple Discussions and Labs

  • Lab is the enrollment component and the graded component.
  • Labs auto-enroll into discussions and lecture.
  • The lab section number and association number must match (i.e. LAB 601 and Assoc. 601). The association number must also be the same for the corresponding discussion (i.e. DIS 301 and Assoc. 601).
  • The lecture association number must be 9999.
  • Any enrollment package could be honors

Student enrolled for a Lab, Discussion and Lecture:

  • Not allowed to wait list any other section.
  • Error Received = You are already enrolled in this class, class not added. The enrollment request was not processed, an enrollment record already exists for the class and term specified. Verify class number and term, and resubmit the request.

Student not enrolled:

  • Allowed to wait list for one section.
  • Error received on second section attempt.
    Error Received = You are already wait-listed in class XXXXX. You are already wait-listed for this related component.

Multiple Lectures with Choice of Required Discussions

  • Discussions and lectures are required.
  • Discussions are the enrollment component and the graded component.
  • There is no auto-enroll.
  • Discussion section number and association number must match (i.e. DIS 301 and Assoc. 301).
  • Lecture association number must be 9999.
  • Any discussion could be honors.
  • The enrollment system will prompt the student to select the additional required component (i.e. lecture).

Student enrolled for Discussion 301 and Lecture 001:

  • Attempt to wait list for different Discussion and Lecture 001:
    Error Received = You are already enrolled in this class, class not added. The enrollment request was not processed, an enrollment record already exists for the class and term specified. Verify class number and term, and resubmit the request.
  • Attempt to wait list for Discussion 301 and different Lecture:
    Error Received Up Front = Multiple Enrollment not allowed for course, add not processed.
  • Attempt to wait list for different Discussion and different Lecture:
    Allowed to wait list (no shared component).

Student not enrolled:

  • Allowed to wait list for sections that do not share the same component.
  • Attempt to wait list for Discussion 301 and Lecture 001:
    Allowed to wait list (no shared component).
  • Attempt to wait list for Discussion 306 and Lecture 002:
    Allowed to wait list (no shared component).
  • Attempt to wait list for any other combination.
    Error Received = You are already wait-listed in class XXXXX. You are already wait-listed for this related component..

Multiple Lectures with Multiple, Auto-Enrolled Required Discussions

  • Discussion is the enrollment component and the graded component.
  • Discussion is required.
  • Discussion section number and association number must match (i.e. DIS 301 and Assoc. 301).
  • Lecture association number must be 9999.
  • Any discussion could be honors.
  • This type of setup may require assistance from Curricular Services.

Student enrolled for Discussion 301 and Lecture 001:

  • Attempt to wait list different Discussion with Lecture 001:
    Error Received = You are already enrolled in this class, class not added. The enrollment request was not processed, an enrollment record already exists for the class and term specified. Verify class number and term, and resubmit the request.
  • Attempt to wait list different Discussion with Lecture 002:
    Allowed to wait list (no shared component).

Student not enrolled:

  • Allowed to wait list for two sections that do not share the same component.
  • Attempt to wait list Discussion 301 and Lecture 001:
    Allowed to wait list (no shared component).
  • Attempt to wait list Discussion 304 and Lecture 002:
    Allowed to wait list (no shared component).
  • Attempt to wait list for any other combination:.
    Error Received = You are already wait listed in class XXXXX. You are already wait listed for this related component.

Lecture with Choice of Optional Discussion

  • Lecture is the enrollment component and the graded component.
  • Discussion is optional.
  • The enrollment system will prompt the student to select the additional optional component (i.e. discussion).
  • Lecture and discussions must be the same association.

Student enrolled for Lecture and optional Discussion:

  • Not allowed to wait list any other section.
  • Error Received = You are already enrolled in this class, class not added. The enrollment request was not processed, an enrollment record already exists for the class and term specified. Verify class number and term, and resubmit the request.

Student not enrolled:

  • Allowed to wait list for one section.
  • Error received when making second attempt: Class XXXXX is closed. The class enrollment limit has been reached.

 


One Lecture with Multiple Required Discussions and One Standalone Lecture

  • Lecture 001 has required discussions and Lecture 002 is a stand-alone lecture.
  • For Lecture 001, the discussion is the enrollment component and the graded component. For Lecture 002, the lecture is the enrollment component and the graded component.
  • Discussion section number and association number must match (i.e. DIS 301 and Assoc. 301).
  • Lecture association number must be 9999 for the lecture with discussion sections. Lecture number and association number must match for the standalone lecture.
  • This type of setup requires assistance from Curricular Services.

Student enrolled for a Discussion and Lecture 001:

  • Attempt to wait list for different Discussion and Lecture 001:
    Error Received = You are already enrolled in this class, class not added. The enrollment request was not processed, an enrollment record already exists for the class and term specified. Verify class number and term, and resubmit the request.
  • Attempt to wait list for Lecture 002 only:
    Allowed to wait list (no shared component).

Student not enrolled:

  • Allowed to wait list for two sections that do not share the same component.
  • Attempt to wait list for Discussion and Lecture 001:
    Allowed to wait list.
  • Attempt to wait list for different Discussion and Lecture 001:
    Not allowed to wait list
    Error Received = You are already wait listed in class XXXXX. You are already wait listed for this related component.
  • Attempt to wait list for Lecture 002 only:
    Allowed to wait list (no shared component).
