LabArchives: Backup Notebook

How to create local backups of your LabArchives data

There are two ways to backup and retain a read-only copy of a LabArchives notebook:

  • Downloading a PDF copy that includes all entries and embedded attachments that are smaller than 250 MB or
  • Creating an offline HTML version of the notebook that is also searchable and clickable.

Note: If your notebook contains electronic Protected Health information, these downloads must be stored in a HIPAA approved storage location.

Storing Backup Notebook(s)

PDF and/or HTML copies of LabArchives notebooks can be stored anywhere that your research data are approved to be stored, such as on approved workstations, cloud drives and network storage.

Not sure where to store your notebooks? The ELN service team recommends ResearchDrive.  ResearchDrive is a secure and permanent shareable storage space on the UW-Madison campus network that provides 5TB of free storage space per PI.  For more information on the ResearchDrive service and obtaining an account, please see how to access ResearchDrive.
