Russell Labs Hub - Faculty Guide - Honorary Scholar and Fellow Appointments

This document contains information on requesting a new or an extension an honorary scholar or fellow appointment. These appointments are generally zero-dollar appointments and a typically are used to create a relationship with a visitor or a scholar outside the university. This appointment gives the scholar a UW Wiscard, a NetID, and access to University resources. There is also an appointment letter for a paid visiting honorary appointment.

To request a honorary scholar/fellow appointment, the following three pieces of information need to be submitted to Russell HR for approval by CALS HR:

  1. Draft Appointment Letter Template: Visiting_Honorary_Letter_Template_2017.doc or Draft Paid Appointment Letter Template: Visiting_Honorary_Paid_Template_2017.docx
  2. Request for Appointment Form: Visiting_ZeroDollar_RequestForm.docx
  3. Current CV/Resume of Scholar/Fellow

Please note: honorary appointments can be for a maximum of three years.

To request an extension of an existing honorary scholar/fellow appointment, the following pieces of information need to be submitted to Russell HR:

  1. Number of years for appointment extension
  2. Current CV/Resume of Scholar/Fellow

Please see link below for J1 visa information if your honorary appointment is for a foreign visiting scholar/fellow who will be coming to the U.S. on a sponsored, zero-dollar appointment.
