After the License Ends: Your account will automatically convert to a free personal LastPass account. Your vault data will remain accessible, but you will lose any Premium features provided under the university’s license.

About Your LastPass Account
When does my UW-Madison LastPass account stop working?
You will have access and Premium features until May 2025. After that, your account will convert to the free version. It will not stop working and will not be deleted.
What happens to my stored data?
Your data stays in your vault. Premium features will no longer be available unless you upgrade at your own expense.
Will I lose access to my vault?
No. However, if you log in with your NetID today, you’ll need to switch to a regular password login.
Do I need to take action to switch to a free account?
No. The conversion happens automatically.
Is there a cost to keep my LastPass account?
The basic LastPass account is free. Premium features require a paid subscription.
Will UW-Madison provide LastPass support after May 2025?
No.
Can I migrate my LastPass data to another password manager?
Yes. Most password managers allow importing. UW-Madison recommends 1Password, which includes an import tool.
Is there a UW-Madison recommended alternative?
Yes, 1Password is supported by DoIT and the Office of Cybersecurity. Any password manager is better than none; we discourage using browser-based storage.
How do I securely export my LastPass data?
Use the 1Password Import Tool for encrypted migration. If exporting manually, secure and delete the plain-text export immediately after use.
Are there security concerns with LastPass?

What happens to shared folders?
Shared Folders will no longer be available once the enterprise license expires.
What if I manage team/shared passwords?
