Enabling or Disabling Apple Intelligence

This document explains how to enable or disable AI features on Apple devices, Apple Intelligence.

Overview

Apple Intelligence is Apple's suite of on-device AI features, including Writing Tools, notification summaries, Genmoji, and ChatGPT integration in Siri. It's opt-in and can be enabled or disabled per device.

To turn Apple Intelligence ON

  1. Update the device to the latest supported OS version (see version requirements here)
  2. Go to Settings -> Apple Intelligence & Siri.
  3. Enable Apple Intelligence and keep the device connected to a network while the AI models download.

To turn Apple Intelligence OFF

  1. Go to Settings -> Apple Intelligence & Siri.
  2. Toggle Apple Intelligence off.
  3. Turning it off automatically removes the on-device models from storage.
