LastPass - Logging in Using NetID Login

1Password is replacing LastPass as UW-Madison's supported Password Manager. 1Password was selected for its intuitive user-friendly interface, robust set of features, and excellent track record in safeguarding sensitive data.
Current LastPass users are being invited to 1Password starting in December 2024. LastPass will remain active until May 2025. For more information and updates, refer to the transition FAQ: 1Password - LastPass Transition FAQs

NetID (Federated) Login eliminates the need to remember and use a Master Password to login to LastPass Enterprise.

We prefer "primary" to "master," but LastPass uses "master." Therefore we've done so as well to avoid confusion.

New LastPass Enterprise user's accounts will automatically have NetID Login (referred to as Federated Login by LastPass) enabled for Vault access. LastPass Enterprise users still leveraging a Master Password are able to convert to NetID Login. Follow the steps documented here if you'd like to convert: LastPass - Converting to NetID Login

To login, click the LastPass browser extension icon, enter your NetID@wisc.edu email address, then click the Login button.

Please Note: If you have just activated your LastPass Enterprise account, it may take up to 60 minutes for your account to sync to NetID login. Additionally, it recommended that you restart your browser session before attempting to login.

Benefits of NetID Login

  • No need to create and remember a Master Password for your Vault.
  • Login is fast, simple, and secure.
  • MFA-Duo is integrated for additional security.
  • NetID Login is compatible with the browser extensions, Desktop apps, and mobile apps.

Limitations of Net ID Login

  • NetID Login will not eliminate the need to know your NetID login credentials for other systems/tools/applications i.e. you can’t try to use an un-memorizable password for your NetID.
  • Sessions will need to be renewed every 30 days.
  • NetID Login is not currently compatible with logging into your Vault using LastPass's website. However, LastPass is working on adding this functionality.
