InterPro - NCPD - New Course Approval Process

The following document outlines the New Course Approval Process . It ensures all teams understand the sequence of steps involved.

1. Draft the Course Proposal

Download and complete the following:

  • When the Program Director has an idea for a new professional development course, they will download and fill out the highlighted sections of this NCPD Course Proposal Template.

  • Program Directors are encouraged to consult with the Marketing Team and LDT while drafting the proposal.

    • The Marketing Team can advise on market analysis and help draft curriculum webpage language, including the course summary, audience, and related fields.

    • LDT can assist with drafting learning outcomes and selecting the most appropriate delivery mode.

2. Submit the Course Proposal

When the proposal is ready:

The Associate Dean will review the proposal in consultation with the Leadership Team. 

If the Associate Dean approves the course, they will:

4. Curriculum Creation in CSIS

Within one week of the approval notification:

  • LDT and Marketing will review the proposal and provide feedback through comments in the document stored in the Approved New Course Proposals folder.
  • Representatives from each team will reply to the email thread when their review is complete.

Within one week of the completion of the LDT and Marketing review:

  • Program Support will enter curriculum information in CSIS and publish it to the website. 

5. Next Steps

When the Program Director is ready to schedule the course offering, they should complete the Course Planning Form.

  • Program Support will set up the instance within CSIS and submit CRI.

    • It can take 3 to 5 days for CERC to set up the event within CERCLE after a CRI is submitted.

Additional next steps include:

  • LDT schedules a course development kickoff meeting with the Program Director, Instructor(s), and Program Support.

  • Marketing schedules a marketing kickoff meeting shortly after the course approval.

    • Ideal timeline:

      • 4 to 6 months if no mail campaign is planned

      • 7 to 8 months if mail campaign is planned

    • It is recommended to review the Pre-Meeting Questions to Consider prior to the meeting.
