Fix VPN Device Compliance Notice Issues

Below are instructions to resolve a GlobalProtect VPN Device Compliance Notice.

If you received a compliance notification on a UW-Madison owned device, please check with your local/departmental IT support staff before following this guide.

Missing Security Updates & Unsupported Operating System

Use the instructions below to check for updates. If you still receive a VPN Device Compliance Notice and no updates are found, please verify that your device is capable of running a vendor supported operating system that receives security updates.

Real-Time, Current Antivirus

Below are examples of free antivirus products that meet the UW-Madison Security Policy Standard when real-time protection is enabled and definitions are current. If you use a product not listed here, consult your vendor’s documentation to verify it meets these requirements.

macOS includes built-in antivirus technology called XProtect.

For additional protection, Trend Micro Antivirus for Mac is available for faculty and staff personally owned devices.

Windows

Windows includes built-in antivirus technology called Microsoft Defender Antivirus.
