EPD - Teaching & Learning - Video Production Process

Documentation for video and media production processes in Camtasia, to serve as a job aid for this role and to enable backup and delegation to student employees as needed.

Video Production Process

Below are steps to take when receiving a video file which needs edits before uploading to Kaltura, then embedding to it's respective Canvas course.

After receiving the Box URL link, download the mp4 file or Camtasia file.

Open the Camtasia software and select New Project on the opening prompt page.

Select New Project

When the Camtasia appears, drag the mp4 file onto screen or open the Camtasia project file to begin editing.

Cut or Remove

Trim
Remove extra content from the beginning or end of a clip.

  1. Click to select the media on the timeline.
  2. Drag the end of the clip in.

To restore the trimmed content, drag the end of the clip back out.

Cut
Remove an individual clip or a selection across tracks on the timeline

  1. Click to select the media to cut or Shift+click to select multiple media on the timeline.
  2. Click the Cut button Cut button.

Camtasia Editor removes the selected media.

   

To paste the cut selection on the timeline, drag the playhead to a new location and click the Paste button Paste button.

Ripple Delete
Delete a selection on the timeline and shift all media to the left to remove the gap.

  1. Click the Lock Track option Lock Track button to the right of the track name to lock any tracks that contain media you do not want to delete.
  2. Click and drag the green or red playhead handles to make a selection.
  3. Press Ctrl+Delete (Windows) or Command+Delete (Mac)

   

Move or Arrange Media

Complete any of the following to insert, move, or rearrange media on the timeline

Split
Separate media into multiple clips to:

  • Move or rearrange media.
  • Apply different effects, looks or layouts to a specific section in the media.
  • Insert transitions or titles between sections.
  1. Click to select the media to split.
  2. Drag the playhead to the desired location to split the media.
  3. Click the Split button Split button or press the S key (Windows) or Command+T (Mac).

The selected media splits into two separate clips.

           

Exporting the Video

  1. Click the Export button in the top right corner and select Local file from the dropdown menu.
  2. Name the Video
  3. To adjust video export settings, select the Options button. (Keyframe rate of 25 & 4,2000 kbits/sec is reasonable setting)
  4. Click the OK button. The video will then export.

     

Uploading Video to Kaltura MediaSpace

Visit https://mediaspace.wisc.edu/ and select the + Add New > Media Upload option in the top right corner of the page.

Select the "I agree to the above terms and conditions" check box and upload your video content.
