UW Madison Policy UW-3079 - Relocation      

The amounts for the relocation stipend should be found in the appointment letter.  Since the tax change in 2018, only a relocation stipend is paid.  Exact relocation costs with receipts are no longer processed. The letter with the relocation stipend amount must be attached to the relocation payment request.

As of July 2025, relocation stipends are not processed through expense reports.  Pre-hire relocation payment requests must be submitted via the Ask a Finance Question Intake Form, and will be processed by your ART Initiator.  The pre-hire payments will have no taxes taken out, so it is important to let the employee know that their first paycheck will be significantly less because the taxes will come out of there.  Post-hire relocation payments are processed through payroll.
