Safari 8.0+ (Mac) - Restoring the Default Settings
Note: Restoring Safari to default settings may cause a loss of expected functionality (especially when deleting plug-ins).
There are only three steps to reinstate Safari’s default settings and preferences:
-
Clear all of the browser's cached data. For instructions on how to clear your cached data on Safari, see one of the following articles:
-
For Safari versions 8.0–10.0, see Safari 8.0 - 10.0 (Mac) - Clearing Cache and Cookies.
-
For Safari versions 10.0.1 and up, see Safari 10.0.1+ (Mac) - Clearing Cache and Cookies.
-
-
Delete all extensions downloaded to Safari. The following instructions outline how to delete Safari extensions:
-
In your Safari browser, click Safari at the upper left-hand side of the screen.
-
Then select Preferences.
-
Click the Extensions tab.
-
Select all extensions you wish to delete (for default restoration, delete all), then click Uninstall.
-
-
Delete (or disable) all plug-ins that have been installed. The following instructions outline how to delete/disable Safari extensions:
- In your Safari browser, click Safari at the upper left-hand side of the screen.
-
Then select Preferences.
-
Click the Security tab.
- Deselect the Allow Plug-ins option.
Safari will now have been restored to its default settings.
