Safari 8.0+ (Mac) - Restoring the Default Settings

This document explains how to restore the default settings and preferences in Safari.

Note: Restoring Safari to default settings may cause a loss of expected functionality (especially when deleting plug-ins).

There are only three steps to reinstate Safari’s default settings and preferences:

  1. Clear all of the browser's cached data. For instructions on how to clear your cached data on Safari, see one of the following articles:

  2. Delete all extensions downloaded to Safari. The following instructions outline how to delete Safari extensions:

    1. In your Safari browser, click Safari at the upper left-hand side of the screen.

    2. Then select Preferences.

    3. Click the Extensions tab.

    4. Select all extensions you wish to delete (for default restoration, delete all), then click Uninstall.

  3. Delete (or disable) all plug-ins that have been installed. The following instructions outline how to delete/disable Safari extensions:

    1. In your Safari browser, click Safari at the upper left-hand side of the screen.
    2. Then select Preferences.

    3. Click the Security tab.

    4. Deselect the Allow Plug-ins option.

Safari will now have been restored to its default settings.
