UW-Madison Google Workspace - Create an ad-free Programmable Search Engine

Create a new Programmable Search Engine (PSE)

1. Go to the Google Programmable Search Engine site and select Get Started located on the top right corner.
2. Enter your netid@wisc.edu email address.
3. Enter your NetID credentials.
4. Use the Control Panel to get started. Learn more about creating a PSE.
5. After creating a PSE, click the Customize option and select Members from the left menu. 
6. Select the Add button and add the the Google admin account, gsteam-pse_admin.wiscmail@wisc.edu, as an owner for the option to disable ads in 1 business day. 
7. Return to the PSE after 1 business day, select the Ads option from the left menu and toggle the Show Ads option.
8. Done.

Note: 

• For shared access, please add multiple NetIDs, not a service account. Service accounts are not recommended for PSEs. 
• If the Google admin account is not added as an owner, the option to remove ads will not be available. 
• Keep the Google Admin account as an owner of the PSE to receive recovery support. 

Remove ads from an existing Programmable Search Engine (PSE)

If you already created a Programmable Search Engine (PSE) using your UW-Madison Google account and would like to remove ads, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Google Programmable Search Engine site and select Get Started located on the top right corner.
2. Enter your netid@wisc.edu email address.
3. Enter your NetID credentials.
4. Select Members from the left menu and select the Add option.
5. Add the Google Admin account, gsteam-pse_admin.wiscmail@wisc.edu, as an owner to your search engine.
6. Wait 1 business day.
7. Return to the PSE after 1 business day, select the Ads option from the left menu and toggle the Show Ads option.
8. Done. 

Note:

• Keep the Google Admin account as an owner of the PSE to receive recovery support. 
• If the Google admin account is not assigned the owner role, the option to disable ads will not be available.
