Firefox (Windows) - Restoring the Default Settings

Before you reset your Firefox settings, you should restart the browser following these directions:

1. Open the Firefox browser.
2. Click the orange Firefox button at the top left of the window, and click Help.
   • Note: For older versions that do not have the orange Firefox button, click on Help in the browser toolbar, and then select Restart with Add-ons Disabled... from the Help menu. You will then skip ahead to step 4.
3. From the Help side panel, select Restart with Add-ons Disabled...
4. A Safe Mode dialogue box will appear; select Start in Safe Mode.

Now you can move on to resetting Firefox to its default settings:

1. Open the Firefox browser.
2. Click the orange Firefox button at the top left of the window, and click Help.
   • Note: For older versions that do not have the orange Firefox button, click on Help in the browser toolbar, and then select Troubleshooting Information from the Help menu. You will then skip ahead to step 4.
3. From the Help side panel, select Troubleshooting Information.
4. In the pop-up box that appears, click Restart Firefox...
5. In the confirmation box that follows, click Reset Firefox. Firefox will automatically restart, and your settings will be reset to their default state.

1. Open the Command Prompt by clicking on the Start menu.
2. Click on the All Programs tab.
3. Then select and open the Mozilla Firefox folder.
4. From the folder options, click on Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode).
5. In the Firefox Safe Mode window, check the Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults box before clicking Make Changes and Restart.

Firefox will then automatically restart, and your settings will be reset to their default state.

1. Click on the Start menu.
2. Open the All Programs tab at the bottom of the menu.
3. Then select and open the Mozilla Firefox folder.
4. From the folder options, click on Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode).
5. In the Firefox Safe Mode window, check the Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults box before clicking Make Changes and Restart.

Firefox will then automatically restart, and your settings will be reset to their default state.
