Remote PC access (Azure)

The Azure Remote PC service can be used as a substitute for a Lab PC when needing to access campus software, lab drives, lab printing or other campus resources.  This provides you the ability to use these resources from the comfort of your personal PC if you are either a student or a full-time staff member.

Step-by-step guide

-Open a web browser and navigate to this website: https://windows365.microsoft.com/ent#/devices

-Enter YOUR NetID@Wisc.edu, and press Next to redirect you to the UW Login page.

-Login using your NetID credentials.

-Next, please approve your DUO MFA Authorization

-Press Skip on the Welcome to Windows App screen to access the Azure Virtual Desktop Portal.

-Press Connect on the Standard Work Desktop or appropriate VM


Select Desktop


Note: At this point VM may need to start and you will see a messages Waiting for virtual machine to start

-Check the Don't show again box, and press Connect (May only happen the first time login)

-After connecting, sign in using your NetID@wisc.edu credentials

-After sign in, press OK on the Acceptable Use Policy


Policy

 

-At this point, you can use the service like a normal lab PC.  Open or create documents and access your printers. 

IMPORTANT:  Always save and transfer files back to your Research Drive Or other Storage. VM does not retain data

-The Azure Remote PCs use a shared license for Adobe and Microsoft Office. You can sign into Adobe and Microsoft Office with your NetID@wisc.edu credentials.

-When you are finished you can simply close the window, or sign off / logout of the computer
