QuickTime - Playback Speed Adjustment

How to adjust playback speed within the QuickTime player

Using QuickTime 10
1. From within the QuickTime 10 player, hold down the option(alt) key and left click the fast forward button.  Each click of the fast forward button will speed up the playback in increments, 1.1x, 1.2x, 1.3x, etc. and on up to 2x.
Note: Some video files may not play in newer (MacOS) versions of QuickTime.
If you encounter a video that will not play in a newer version of QuickTime:
- Download and install QuickTime 7 (earlier version).  Both versions can be on your Mac at the same time.  Right click on the mp4 file, and choose Open With, then click QuickTime Player 7.

- Or try using a different type of media player software such as VLC Media Player.
VLC Media Player has a playback speed adjustment bar that goes from .25x to 4x.
Using QuickTime Player 7

They will no longer be issuing security updates for the product on the Windows Platform and recommend users uninstall it. Computers running QuickTime for Windows will continue to work after support ends. However, using unsupported software may increase the risks from viruses and other security threats. Note: that this does not apply to QuickTime on Mac OSX.

1. From within the QuickTime player select Window,

2. Select Show A/V Controls,

3. Look to the bottom right corner of the A/V Controls window for the Playback Speed adjustment.
