Overall Requirements:

  1. You must currently be employed by a Wisconsin School District as a School Social Worker, hired with a License with Stipulations.
  2. You must currently be enrolled in a CSWE Accredited MSW Program.
  3. You must be in your last year of your MSW Program.
  4. Your University through which you are completing your MSW is the degree granting institution for you and is the institution who supervises your internships.
  5. You must be coordinating your license requirements with the Dept. of Public Instruction (DPI) to make sure that your MSW Program, in combination with the School Social Work courses you take through UW Madison School of Social Work, will meet the DPI standards for your Wisconsin License. (UW Madison is not responsible for making sure that DPI approves).
  6. The UW Madison School of Social Work courses will be taken as a “Special Student” and you are enrolled as such through our program.
  7. Portfolio endorsement through UW Madison School of Social Work is part of your course work requirements from the courses below and must be completed prior to the completion of the course, SW 817 Social Work Practice in Schools II by May of the year you complete the course.
  8. You are allowed to enroll as long as we have room in the course with priority given first to UW Madison students.

If the above requirements are met, you will be allowed to take the following series of courses through the UW Madison School of Social Work. These must be taken sequentially and all in the same school year. All courses delivered via On-line Instruction.

  1. Social Work Practice in Schools I: SW 815. Fall semester 2 credits
  2. Social Work Practicum in Schools I: SW 816. Fall semester 1 credit
  3. Social Work Practice in Schools II: SW 817. Spring semester 2 credits
  4. Social Work Practicum in Schools III: SW 818. Spring semester. 1 credit.

Successful completion of this series of courses, including your portfolio completion and successful review, will meet the specific school course academic and portfolio components for School Social Work licensure in Wisconsin. All other requirements must be approved and met through the university with whom you are enrolled for your MSW.
