The Arts & Humanities dossier materials checklist is outlined below and lists the individual(s) responsible for each checklist item.

Supporting Materials

1. All publications and manuscripts of works accepted for publication, book contracts, documentary evidence of acceptance or in the arts, comprehensive documentation of the candidate’s creative work. Please bookmark each publication. If submitting hard copy books, please provide two copies (only one copy required of book manuscript).  (Candidate uploads to Box)

2. Ph.D. dissertation or equivalent, unless terminal degree was earned more than 10 years ago. (Candidate uploads to Box)

3. The originals of all student evaluations of teaching. Please bookmark each course offering. (CAPS uploads to Box)

For senior hires, include materials from the most recent six-year period.


A. Dean’s approval to submit for tenure review (CAPS)

B. Letter from department chair (Committee chair)

C. Candidate’s letter of appointment and the position vacancy listing (CAPS)

D. Departmental criteria and standards for tenure (FP&P 7.14.D) (CAPS)

E. Candidate’s curriculum vitae (Candidate)

F. Candidate’s statement (Candidate)

G. Evaluation and discussion of candidate’s scholarly or artistic contributions to knowledge and culture

(1) by the department (Committee)

(2) reviews, etc., of creative works in the arts (Committee)

(3) five outside letters of evaluation, along with a copy of the letter from the department soliciting the evaluations; a list of materials submitted to referees; biographical information on referees; explanation of how the referees were selected; all communications with referrees (Committee; CAPS will format reviewer summary and coordinate the outside reviewer process)

H. Statement on overlap and joint authorship (Candidate)

I. One representative publication, or in the arts, a representative work sample (Committee with the candidate's input)

J. Narrative of teaching, with complete chronology of courses taught (Committee)

K. Comparative teaching data

(1) comparison between candidate’s assignments and assignments of all probationary faculty in the department (Committee)

(2) comparison between candidate’s evaluation scores and mean scores in the department (CAPS)

(3) comparison between grade distribution in classes taught by the candidate and mean grade distribution in the department (CAPS)

L. Teaching materials - a representative sample of syllabi (one per instructional level) and other curricular materials; award letters, etc. (Committee with candidate's input)

M. Teaching evaluations

(1) sample evaluation form with questions (CAPS)

(2) analysis of the student comments to course evaluation questionnaires (Committee)

(3) all evaluations by colleagues (minimum of one per year) (Committee and candidate)

N. Description of the candidate’s institutional, professional and public service (Committee)

O. (Optional) Annual reports or other additional material (Annual reports stored by CAPS)
