Surgery Remote - Moving Files

This article shows you how to copy files from a Surgery network drive to your local computer (laptop or workstation) using Surgery's secure access solution, Citrix.

Requirements

  1. Computer or laptop connected to the Internet.
  2. A web browser that can access https://remote.surgery.wisc.edu
  3. A valid Surgery user account and password.
  4. The name of the computer you are using.
    1. If a DoS supported device, the name starts with DOS and contains four numbers and is typically found on the case of the unit.
    2. If it's a personally owned device, locate the name in system properties if it is unknown.

Step by Step Guide

For Windows systems:

  1. Connect to https://remote.surgery.wisc.edu
  2. Enter your Surgery username and password.
  3. Launch Citrix Receiver / Workplace and agree to any additional terms presented.
  4. Open the Windows Explorer - Transfer Files app from the Workplace.  This could take up to 30 or 45 seconds to start.
  5. You should see a similar representation of drive resources as below.  Note the presences of two "Local Disk C:" drives.  For this secure remote file transfer, your computer's local files and folders are represented by the C:\ DOSxxxxx object which has a red square around it.

  7. Depending on the direction of the file transfer, you will either choose the network resource first or the Local Disk DOSxxxxx.
    1. Navigate to the file you want to transfer.
    2. Right click on it and choose Copy
    3. If you are copying to the Local Disk DOSxxxxx, open the drive, and browse to Users > <Login Name> > Desktop.  Open the desktop folder, right click and choose Paste.
    4. Reverse this process if copying information from the local disk to the Surgery network drives.
  8. Close the File Manager application and close the Citrix Remote Access application when finished.
