How to Access UWH Email from Surgery Computer

Users with dual affiliation at the University of Wisconsin -Madison and UW Health hospital, will often encounter issues accessing their UWH or Wisc email via web. This issue is due to both organizations using Microsoft Office Single-Sign-On (SSO). This causes the error message:“… User does not exists in tenant “University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority” and cannot access the application https://citrix.uwhealth.org/ … Sign-out and Sign-in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account”.

Below are the current workaournds:

  • Use separate web browsers for Wisc and UWH emails

UW Health applications can only be accessed via Chrome. Please open Chrome and go to https://outlook.office365.com/owa and login with your @uwhealth.org email. Note: If you currently can’t access your email, please clear your cache and cookies following these instructions.

Next, access your Wisc Email/Surgery Email from either Microsoft Edge or Firefox. Please open Edge or Firefox and go to https://email.wisc.edu/ Login with your Wisc email (netid@wisc.edu).

  • Use an Incognito Chrome Window

If you prefer to use Chrome are your primary email browser. You will have to use an incognito window to access your Wisc email or UWH Email.

While Chrome is open, press CTRL + SHIFT + N. OR you can go to Chrome Settings and select “New Incognito Window.

Once the new window is open you can go to https://email.wisc.edu/ to access your Wisc email or you can go to https://outlook.office365.com/owa to access your UWH email.

  • Recommended: Sign-into the Outlook application with your Wisc email

We recommend this option if you are primarily a DOS employee using a DOS computer. All full-time DOS employees are eligible for full access to the Outlook application. We recommend accessing your Wisc/Surgery email this way.

1. To sign-in please click on the “Windows Start Menu” and select “Outlook”

2. Then, enter your Wisc/NetID email and click “Connect”

3. Finally, enter your NetID and accept the DUO push. 

Since you are now logged into the Outlook application with your Wisc email, you will not encounter the error message when trying to login to the UWH email via web.
