Printing (Windows) - Mapping a Printer on a Personal Device

How to map a printer in Windows directly via IP.

If you have a UW-owned computer, try following the steps in Printing (Windows) - Mapping a Printer on a UW Device instead.

If you do not know the model or IP address of the printer, please contact Technical Support, noting your department and the location of the printer.

While there are too many variations to document explicit steps for all types of printers, follow these general steps to install a printer and its driver.

  1. Download an appropriate driver for the printer from the manufacturer's website by searching for the model.
  2. Begin installing the driver.
  3. As you go through the steps, select any option that allows you to specify the IP address of the printer rather than searching for it. This commonly looks like Add a printer using an IP address or hostname or the option to add a new Standard TCP/IP Port.
  4. For a device type, select TCP/IP Device.
  5. Always choose Do not share this printer if presented the option.
