Geography - Faculty Guide - Summer Session Funding
Information on Summer Session Funding
Faculty can teach in
summer session. This document contains information on teaching summer session,
budget planning, and a link to the summer sessions handbook.
Faculty can elect to
teach courses in the summer. Solicitation of summer courses will occur in
September of the proceeding year, with an official request coming from the
College of Letters and Science Dean's Office. This request typically has
required information from faculty such as: course name and number; number of
students predicted to enroll; last course offerings; and summer session time
information. Enclosed are the most recent example spreadsheet and memo from
L&S.

The information provided by faculty is used to create a summer budget. Typically, faculty receive 1/9th of salary for teaching one course in the four-week session and 50% of 2/9ths for teaching one course in the 8-week session. The final list of courses is priority ranked by the Department Chair, in consultation with the advisors. The budget is submitted for approval to L&S; not all courses submitted will necessarily be approved and funded.
