Expectations for Academic Advising Resources

Any department or department-like unit that owns a degree/major or certificate is required to provide adequate resources for student academic advising. This includes having a faculty or academic staff member who is assigned as an advisor to students who are declared in the program. SIS is the authoritative source of advisor assignment information.

The assigned academic advisor should regularly be available to meet with students and discuss progress toward completion of the program and other related topics. The department is expected to keep the academic advisor up-to-date on curricular changes related to program requirements and courses. In the event that the advisor leaves the program the department is responsible for making sure that the advisor assignments for the students declared in the program are updated in SIS.
