This document describes how to access Instinct Treatment Planner via Remote App access

Question

How do I access Instinct Treatment Planner from off-site or from a non-SVM Owned or Provided Machine?

Scope

This document pertains to accessing Instinct Treatment Planner via Windows App through Azure Virtual Desktop

Required Information

  • NetID access to UW Madison Resources
  • Installed version of Windows App

Resolution

You can access Instinct Treatment Planner via the use of the Microsoft Windows App on any device on which you can download those apps (this includes PCs, Macs, Android, and iOS/iPadOS devices. You can also access these systems via a web browser. Both methods are shown below. SVM IT recommends the use of the Windows App on a PC or Mac for a better experience. Please note that currently, using this method removes the need to use the VPN

Via Windows App / Remote App (First Time Use, Only) 

  1. Download (and, if needed, install) the Windows App from whatever app marketplace you use on your device (Apple App Store, Microsoft Store, Android App Store).

  2. Open Windows App or Remote App

  3. Click the "+" sign in the upper right corner of the Windows App screen

  4. Select "Add Work or School Account"

  5. In the "Sign in" screen, enter your NetID@wisc.edu and select "Next"

  6. Enter your NetID username and password in the UW-Madison Login window, then click "Log In"

  7. Authenticate using Duo as you do for other University websites

  8. Make the selection appropriate for your workstation

  9. Wait while Windows App sets up the workspace for your use... This could take several minutes.

  10. Instinct and Stringsoft are shown under the "UW Veterinary Care" heading. We recommend using the apps under the UW Veterinary Care selection for this purpose.

  11. You can now access Instinct by double clicking on the "Instinct" icon located under "UW Veterinary Care" (Please note: the first time you access either Instinct or StringSoft using this method, there may be a several minute delay to get Instinct or Stringsoft started... Please be patient...)

Accessing Instinct Treatment Planner from Off Site Via Web Browser

You can also access Instinct Treatment Planner via Web Browser.

  1. Access your web browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox recommended...)

  2. Browse to https://windows.microsoft.cloud

  3. Enter your NetID@wisc.edu in the Sign In screen

  4. Enter your NetID user name and password on the UW-Madison Login page

  5. Walk through Duo as you normally would

  6. Answer the Duo question the way you normally would

  7. Access Instinct or Stringsoft through the web browser by double-clicking on the appropriate icon

  8. Click "Don't Show Again," and then click "Connect"... (Please note: depending on whether you've used this before, this screen may look different...)

  9. When launching Instinct, you'll need to enter your PIN and press Enter (Note: the photo shows "Sandbox." You should be accessing the live Instinct environment.)

  10. After entering your PIN, the appropriate Patient Care screen will show
