Nielsen Tennis Stadium, with 12 indoor tennis courts and six squash racquet courts (including one doubles squash court), was donated to the University in 1968 by Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Nielsen, Sr. Ranked by the USTA as one of the finest tennis facilities in the country, more than 800 students, faculty and staff players use this facility on a weekly basis. The stadium features shower and locker areas as well as upper-level seating for more than 1,500 people.
The indoor courts plus six outdoor tennis courts are available on a reservation basis with priority given to students, and faculty/staff. Fees are assessed to cover operational costs. Playing period is 1 hour and 15 min.Reservation Procedure
UW Students and Faculty/Staff may make reservations 3 days in advance, other students and spouses of UW Students/Faculty/Staff may make 2 day advance reservations (only when UW is NOT in session), or 2 hours in advance (when UW is in session). Squash courts may be reserved 1 day in advance.
Call (608) 262-0410 after 7:45 a.m. to make reservations. Telephone reservations will alternate with reservations made in person. A subsequent reservation may not be made until the previous reservation has been played.
A reservation will be held for 10 minutes past the scheduled start time, after that other players will be permitted to reserve the court. Players who are unable make a reservation must contact Nielsen Tennis Stadium two hours in advance of their reservation so the vacant court may be made available to other players. “No shows” and “late cancellations” will be billed the cost of the court. Players with “no shows” and “late cancellations” must pay the appropriate cancellation fee before making a reservation or playing again
Players must check in at the reservation desk, present a UW-Madison ID, and pay court fees before playing. Faculty/Staff must also pay the Recreation Access Fee.
