Accessing Law School network drives remotely (Windows)

Accessing Law School network drives from off campus requires two steps:

1. Connect to the UW-Madison Virtual Private Network (VPN).
2. Connect to the appropriate Law School network drive.

Before completing these steps, you will need to perform some one-time setup.

Preparation: Install VPN Software

UW-Madison's VPN service is provided and supported by the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). Because this is a campus-wide resource available to all UW-Madison students and employees, DoIT provides installation and support documentation.

Preparation: Download the Network Drive Connection File

To connect to a Law School network drive, you will need to download the appropriate connection batch file.

Download the file from:

http://law.wisc.edu/help/for_students/remote_access_win.html

Note: When prompted for a username, use your UW-Madison NetID.

Step 1: Connect to the VPN

1. Launch the GlobalProtect VPN client.
2. Sign in using your UW-Madison NetID and password.
3. Verify that the VPN connection has been successfully established before proceeding.

Step 2: Connect to the Network Drive

1. Download the batch file corresponding to the network drive you need from:

   http://law.wisc.edu/help/for_students/remote_access_win.html

2. Run the downloaded batch file.

3. When prompted, enter your NetID password.

Note: As you type your password, no characters will appear on the screen. This behavior is normal. Enter your password and press Enter.

Once completed, the network drive should be mapped and available in File Explorer.
