Tips, Tricks, and Recommended Practices Exam 4
- Do a Practice Exam in CLOSED mode.
Use the software in the same mode as the actual exam. Verify everything works, read the provided instructions, and do this at least 24 hours before the exam to allow time for troubleshooting in room 2115.
- Make sure your computer is up to date.
Automatic updates can disrupt the exam software. Update Windows via Settings or Mac via Apple Menu → System Preferences → Software Update → Check Now.
- Reboot your computer before the exam.
A fresh restart clears memory and ensures stability. Close all applications before restarting, since some operating systems reopen previously active apps.
- Be early to your exam.
Arrive 15–30 minutes early to set up your computer and resolve any last-minute issues.
- Don't use your computer if it's sick.
If your computer crashes often or is unreliable, avoid using it for the exam. A stable machine greatly reduces the risk of problems.
- Authenticate to the Wireless Network before your exam.
Logging into the wireless network ensures your exam file uploads correctly. Forgetting isn’t catastrophic, but authentication is strongly recommended.
- If you use a borrowed computer, make sure and email yourself a copy of the exam file.
Library computers are wiped after use, and borrowed machines may not be accessible later. Email yourself the exam file to retain control.
- Open Mode does not allow you to copy and paste.
You cannot copy text from notes into the exam. Compose answers directly in the exam software rather than another application.
- Use Answer Separators to count the words for each question if your Professor establishes word limits.
Separators help track word counts per question, ensuring compliance with any limits set by your professor.
