Using Skype in the Dean Conference room, Lubar conference room, OCPD interview room.
Policy for OCPD Skype Set-up

Skype is an application that provides video chat and voice
call services. Users may exchange such digital documents as images, text, video
and any other, and may transmit both text and video messages. Skype allows the
creation of video conference calls.
In the law School, it is used to facilitate interviews,
video conference calls and lectures. This document will describe how to setup
Skype in three different locations in the Law School: The Dean Conference room
in 5215, Lubar Conference room in 7205 and in one of the interview rooms in
Career Services.
To use Skype, do the following:
1)
Log into Skype. Usually, the user provides
his/her own Skype credentials. On occasion, we use the Law School Tech
Department Skype credentials, which are as follows: Username: uwlaw.help; password: r password.

Once in Skype, select Contacts; Find the person you want to call from the contact list.
If there are many contacts, you can type a name in the search box to find the
contact you are looking for.
3) Click on the Contact. You will see their details in the main windows. Skype can be used for Audio only calls or Video conferencing. The icons look like this:

one on the right for audio only.
5) At the end of the call, click on the red End Call button at the bottom of the screen.
LUBAR CONFERENCE
ROOM 7205
The AV equipment here consists of a PC connected to a flat
panel TV. The Lubar conference room is also wired with a USB camera and wide
area microphone. A wireless keyboard and mouse is also available to interface
with the PC. Make sure these are turned on as they are powered off to save
energy as well.
To use Skype in Lubar, the following general directions
should be followed:

Turn on TV using remote control. Turn on PC if
needed (located in cupboard below TV).
- Log into PC using service account (UN: svc-classroom; PW: lawclass or netid)

Switch TV input to HDMI 1

Launch Skype and log in with appropriate
credentials.

To make a Skype video call, look through Skype
contacts and click on the camera icon.

To make an audio call, click on the phone icon.

To end the call, click on the red phone icon.

To make a conference call, click on the “+”
sign; this will bring up the Contact list; select either the camera icon for a
video or the phone icon for audio.
DEAN CONFERENCE
ROOM 5215
The main AV equipment in the Dean Conference room is a PC with a flat panel TV as a monitor. There is a USB camera installed and it is mounted on the TV. In addition, the room is wired with a USB wide area microphone to pick up audio from the whole room. A wireless keyboard and mouse is used to interface with the PC – make sure these are turned on as they are sometimes powered off to save energy.
To use Skype in the Dean Conference room, the following general directions should be followed:
- Turn on TV using remote control. Turn on PC if its off (also located in the cupboard below TV).
- Log into PC using service account.
- Switch TV input to show content from PC.
- Launch Skype and log in with appropriate credentials.
- Look through contacts, choose to make either a video or audio call.
- To end call, click on the red phone icon.
- To make a conference call, click the "+" sign; this will bring up the Contacts list; select either the camera icon for a video call or the phone icon for audio calls.

AV equipment in the Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) interview room consists of a LCD TV, a Mac Mini and a wireless keyboard and mouse combination. The TV is hoisted on the wall and the Mac Mini is located behind the TV. Networking equipment (switch, wall jack) is also located behind the TV in case troubleshooting is needed.
To use Skype in this room, the following general directions should be followed:
- Turn on the TV by locating the power button on the right side of the TV. Once pressed, the TV should boot up in a couple of seconds.
- Turn on the Mac Mini if it isn't already on (it usually is). Locate the Mac mini behind the TV; the power button is located at the "top" of the Mini.
- Once booted, log into the computer using the keyboard and mouse located on the table. Log in info is written on sticky notes also located on the table.
- Launch Skype.
- To make a Skype video call, look through Skype contacts and click on the camera icon.
- To make an audio call, click on the phone icon.
- To end the call, click on the red phone icon.
- To make a conference call, click on the “+” sign; this will bring up the Contact list; select either the camera icon for a video or the phone icon for audio.
Troubleshooting Audio Problems
To test audio settings, Skype included a helpful feature called "Echo/Sound Test Service" in the contact list.
When you call the service, you should hear a female voice. If you don't hear anything, Skype's speaker setting needs to be changed.
The service will ask you to record a short voice message to test Skype's microphone settings. Your voice message should be played back; if you don't hear the playback, microphone settings need to be changed.
To adjust microphone and speaker settings, go to Tools -> Options; then click on Audio Settings on the left menu pane. On a Mac, go to Skype -> Preferences; then click on Audio Settings.
