GlobalProtect- Adding the Campus "WiscVPN" Portal

This document provides instructions for adding the UW campus portal to the GlobalProtect VPN client for macOS and Windows devices.

    Mac Instructions

    1. Click the GlobalProtect icon in the macOS menu bar (it looks like a globe).


    2. In the GlobalProtect window that appears, click the icon with three horizontal lines (aka, the hamburger button) in the upper-right corner and select the Settings menu.

    3. Under the Connections tab, click on the “+” icon to add another portal

    4. Enter uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu as the portal address and click the Add button and then close the window.

    5. Select uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu from the Portal drop-down menu.

    6. Click the Connect button to connect the VPN.

      NOTE: The uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu portal will require the use of your NetID credentials and Duo authentication. Please refer to the Knowledgebase article in the Related Documents section below for details.


    Windows Instructions

    1. Click the GlobalProtect icon in the system tray of the Windows taskbar (it looks like a globe).


    2. In the GlobalProtect window that appears, click the icon with three horizontal lines (aka, the hamburger button) in the upper-right corner and select the Settings sub-menu.

      Choose Settings sub-menu


    3. Under the Connections tab, click on the “+” icon to add another portal
      Click the "+" icon to add another portal address

    4. Enter uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu as the portal address and click the Add button and then close the window.

      Enter "uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu" for the portal address


    5. Select uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu from the Portal drop-down menu.

      Select "uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu" from the portal drop-down menu

    6. Click the Connect button to connect the VPN.

      NOTE: The uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu portal will require the use of your NetID credentials and Duo authentication. Please refer to the Knowledgebase article in the Related Documents section below for details.


    Disable "Welcome to the UW Network" Page

    By default, GlobalProtect will automatically display a "Welcome to the UW Network" page within your default browser, similar to the image below, when it connects successfully.

    To disable this feature, follow the instructions outlined below.
    NOTE: Although the images used are from macOS, the steps for Windows devices are nearly identical.

    1. Click on the icon with the 3 horizontal lines (aka the "hamburger" button)

      Select Settings from the hamburger buton


    2. Select Preferences from the list at the left, then "check" the "Do not display a welcome page upon each successful connection" checkbox. Close the window.
