Connect to eduroam Wi-Fi: Mac

This document explains how users with WCER provided Macs can more easily connect to the worldwide eduroam Wi-Fi network.

eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.
eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions by simply opening their laptop.

  • About the macOS eduroam profile
    WCER-provided Macs which have Workspace ONE installed (which is virtually all of them) are able to more easily connect to eduroam Wi-Fi because a device profile "macOS eduroam profile" gets automatically installed without user interaction.

    The link below will provide more detail about the device profile itself to anyone with Internal/Admin rights.

Requirements

  • A macOS computer, enrolled in Workspace ONE (i.e., provided by WCER)
    NOTE: If you have a personally-owned or other Mac which was not provided by WCER you can still use eduroam, but you will need to follow the DoIT Help Desk instructions provided here to install and configure the necessary profile.

  • An active NetID and university email account.

Connecting to eduroam

Click on the Wi-Fi icon within the Mac menu bar and select eduroam from the list of available networks.
Select eduroam from the Wi-Fi menu bar

Users are prompted for an Account Name and Password when connecting to eduroam for the first time.
Enter these in the format '[NetID]@wisc.edu' and '[NetID password]' and press the OK button to connect.
Enter your NetID email address and password

eduroam Wi-Fi should now be connected.
eduroam is now connected
