Web Hosting - External Developer Access

Below you will find information for Web Hosting customers who partner with external (non-UW) developers who require site access in order to publish files and perform other account management functions.  This allows for NetID creation and access to the UW network, which handles firewall exceptions via the UW Madison - Virtual Private Network (WiscVPN)

Granting External Access

*** UW-Madison Departments are required to work with their local HR staff who can aid in obtaining a NetID(s) for an external developer(s) using the POI (Person of Interest) process***

There are additional options to obtain NetIDs for external partners, who do not have a UW-Madison Department to sponsor the request.  DoIT Web Hosting maintains a Manifest group that allows for the rare exception of populations that cannot obtain NetIDs through POI via a UW-Madison Department.

  • DoIT Web Hosting Managed Invites that can't use POI: Contact DoIT Web Hosting with the name and email address of the individual(s) and we will initiate the invitation to activate a NetID.
NOTES:
-- There are additional steps for those requiring access to restricted data accounts that require Static WiscVPN assignments for firewall purposes.
-- If an external developer has a static IP assignment from their ISP or place of business we can also safe-list it for firewall purposes.
Please contact Web Hosting (webhosting@doit.wisc.edu) if you are partnering with external developers so we can assist in adding their contact information to your web account and supplying credentials.
