WiscChat - Known Issues

Below is a list of feature requests and known issues with WiscChat.

All clients or multiple clients

The issues listed below apply to all or multiple chat clients.

  • Unable to connect via any WiscChat client due to an authentication or not authorized error.
    • If your account password contains ":" (colon) character/symbol, you will not be able to connect to WiscChat. Please remove this character/symbol from your password.
  • An account's alternate addresses work as separate accounts in WiscChat.
    • Messages/requests delivered to one of these alternates will not be forwarded to the others.
  • Unable to connect using Pidgin.
    • Sometimes, when you are attempting to configure your account via Pidgin, it will not be able to connect. Resolve this issue by performing the following:
      1. Start Pidgin.
      2. Go to Accounts > Manage Accounts > Modify.
      3. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
      4. Within "Connect server", enter wiscmail.wisc.edu.
      5. Save and connect.
  • Not all Office 365 domains are enabled for WiscChat.
