Change Request Types
DoIT Change Management makes use of several types of Change Requests based on their time to implementation and risk of impact to services.
Note: Standard Change Requests will be implemented with the launch of DoIT's new ITSM Tool, Ivanti Neurons. WiscIT Powered by Ivanti Neurons will launch in late July 2026.
Normal Change Requests
- Normal Change Requests are appropriate for all change requests that have more than 48 hours of lead time until their scheduled implementation.
- Normal Change Requests are approved by Change Management or the Change Advisory Board, depending on their impact and risk assessment.
Emergency Change Requests
- Must be used if there is less than 48 hours or 2 business days until implementation of the change.
- Require pre-approval from a Manager or Associate Director (or higher). The pre-approving Manager is notified of the Emergency CR upon submission.
- Require 'Justification' to document the need for urgency and why this change should be implemented right away.
- Do not otherwise require approval and skip the "Pending Approval" stage so that they may be implemented ASAP.
Standard Change Requests
Introducing with the launch of WiscIT Powered by Ivanti Neurons in July 2026.
- Appropriate for routine, repeatable, low-risk and low-impact changes
- Must have an active, approved 'Standard Change Template' in order to use
- Expedites the change request process by making it easy and quick for technologists to create a Change Request based on the approved template
- Do not require approval as long as an approved Standard Change Template is used.
Note: Standard Changes deliver the most value when used for high-frequency changes. Change Management does NOT recommend attempting to establish every low-risk or low-impact change as a Standard Change, instead focusing on the changes that your teams do very frequently and that are highly repeatable.
