UW Theme Classic - Using Widgets on Posts Pages

Widgets are sidebar components that you can optionally add to a Post List page. They provide navigation and display options for posts. This article will walk you through adding and configuring those widgets.

Important

This document outlines steps related to UW Theme Classic. This theme will be decommissioned in WiscWeb at the end of December 2026. At that time, this documentation will go away. If you are looking for how to do this process in the new theme, please visit the UW Theme 2.0 website.

Purpose and use

Widgets can be used to add additional navigation and searching functionality to a WordPress site that uses a heavy number of posts, such as news articles or blog posts. The Widgets include items such as accessing archives, viewing more recent posts, or adding a search field.

Adding or removing widgets

To add or remove widgets to your Post List page, follow these steps:

  1. Hover your mouse over the Appearance menu on the left, and choose Widgets.

  2. In the left side of the screen, you have the options you can add to your sidebar, and on the right side you can drag and drop those options into the Blog Sidebar section.

  3. Once you have added your widgets, you can also set some options. For example, if you click on the drop down arrow for Archives or Categories, you can set them to appear as a drop down menu instead of all listed. Once you set any options, click the Save button.

  4. As always, check your Posts page to confirm your Widgets are working.
