Non-Standard Sessions
Departments should use the recommended sessions listed above whenever possible. These sessions are the most commonly used in L&S and provide the greatest scheduling flexibility for students.
Other Summer Term sessions may be scheduled when appropriate. While these sessions are generally permitted, they may reduce scheduling flexibility for students because they can overlap with courses scheduled in the recommended Summer Term sessions.
Departments are encouraged to consult TLA early in the planning process when considering non-standard sessions, especially if there are questions about instructional appointments, scheduling impacts, or approval requirements.
Courses may not be scheduled to begin before May 17, 2027. Courses scheduled to end after August 8, 2027 require review and approval by TLA.
Courses scheduled outside these dates may:
- Complicate student enrollment and registration planning.
- Create issues with grading, drops, and academic standing.
- Overlap with faculty and academic staff contract dates and TA appointment periods.
- Require non-standard Summer instructional appointments.
- Create payroll and HR complications.
