iOS 14 and Above - Turning Off the Private Address Feature

This document outlines how to turn off the new Private Address feature that was first introduced in iOS 14.

The new Private Address feature of iOS 14 allows for the randomization of the device's MAC address. Due to how UWNet operates and authenticates devices to make sure the network is secure, devices with this feature enabled may have issues connecting to UWNet and eduroam.

How to Turn Off the Private Address Feature

  1. Open Settings, and choose "Wi-Fi."

Choosing Settings and Wifi

  1. Click the blue "i" symbol next to either UWNet, eduroam, or both.

  1. Click the green toggle button next to "Private Address."

Turn private address off

  1. Then press "Rejoin" in the following pop-up

The device should now be able to connect to UWNet or eduroam.
