WiscList (Advanced) - Changing List Email Headers (To, From, Reply-To)
The To, From, and Reply-To headers in WiscList messages can be modified by list administrators.
Configuring Headers
- Log into the WiscList ListManager interface. See: WiscList - Advanced List Management (List Manager).
- Verify the list you want to work with is selected. See: WiscList (Advanced) - Working with Multiple Lists.
- Click the Utilities button in the left-hand navigational menu to open the Utilities submenu.
- Highlight List Settings, then click email Submitted Content.
- Click the Header Rewrites tab.
- Enter the information you want displayed in the From header. You can choose from the following:
- If left blank, the name and email address of the author will be used.
- Specific email address (joesmith@wisc.edu) with optional name ("Joe Smith" <joesmith@wisc.edu>).
Note: If specifying the from address, please adhere precisely to the above format.
- Enter the information you want displayed in the Reply To header. You can choose from the following:
- Enter nochange to use the header as received. This is typically the name and address of the author.
- If left blank, the address of the list is used.
- Enter author to use the name and address of the author.
- Specific email address (joesmith@wisc.edu) with optional name ("Joe Smith" <joesmith@wisc.edu>).
- Enter the information you want displayed in the To header. You can choose from the following:
- Enter nochange to use the header as received. This is typically the address of the list and any additional lists the mailing was sent to at the same time.
- If left blank, the address of the list is used. Additional people/lists the email were sent to will not be shown
- Enter %%nameemail%% to use the name and address of the recipient (this changes per recipient).
- Specific email address (joesmith@wisc.edu) with optional name ("Joe Smith" <joesmith@wisc.edu>).
- Note: Be aware that if you enter a specific email address into any of these fields, you will likely conceal the author and/or the email address of the list, which are both vital for proper communication on a list.
- Click Save.
