WiscWeb - Site launch FAQ

This document lists the frequently asked questions (FAQ) that are related to launching a website in WiscWeb.

Can edit my site before it is launched?
Yes, you can continue editing up until your time of launch.

Will I edit my site the same way after I launch?
Yes, site editing will operate exactly the same as before your launch. We recommend continuing to login at https://wiscweb.wisc.edu/wp-admin for this purpose.

How much notice do you need in order to schedule a site launch?
It is requested that you schedule your launch at least TWO WEEKS in advance. This gives us the opportunity to coordinate the launch with the DoIT Web Hosting team. Having your site scheduled in advance helps ensure that it can launch on the day of your choosing.

How do I get rid of the “wiscweb” in the site URL?
The “wiscweb” portion of your URL will be removed when you officially launch your website. Instead of your WiscWeb URL, your site will publish to the domain you requested when you sent in the new site request form.

Will the internal *.wiscweb.wisc.edu URLs automatically update when the site is launched?
Yes, we conduct a find/replace for *.wiscweb.wisc.edu URLs upon site launch. These will all be updated for you.

Will my old *.wiscweb.wisc.edu domain still work after launch?
Your old WiscWeb domain will redirect to a customized "Site Not Found" message after launch. This message will include a link to the new site URL so that users will not get lost. Therefore, you will not need a redirect from the old to the new. By not automatically redirecting, your users will become more aware of the change and learn that the site now sits at a different URL.
