WiscWeb - WordPress UW Theme - Sharing Events Between Sites

The following document will walk you through the options available for sharing events between websites in WiscWeb.

There are currently two tools available for sharing events between websites:

Events Calendar

The only option available for integrating Events Calendar events from one site into another is to place it as a link list using the RSS Feed shortcode.

This option will not allow you to combine multiple calendar lists into one, but will allow you to place Events Calendar events from one site onto another. If you require integrate from multiple sites, they will have to be added separately.

  1. Create a Text Block on the page
  2. Copy and paste the following shortcode to the Text Block:

    [uw-rss-feed url="https://urlgoeshere.com" title="Title of RSS Feed" description="Description of RSS Feed" more-link="https://urlgoeshere.com" max-posts="x"]

  3. Navigate to the Events page on the site you'd like to integrate events from (Tip: The page URL will typically end with /events)
  4. Copy the URL for the page
  5. Navigate back to your in-progress WiscWeb page
  6. Highlight the text in the shortcode that lists the URL between quotes and paste in the URL that you copied. (Note: Make sure not to remove any of the quotation marks in steps 6-9)

    [uw-rss-feed url="https://somesite.wisc.edu/events" title="Title of RSS Feed" description="Description of RSS Feed" more-link="https://urlgoeshere.com" max-posts="x"]

  7. Add a title and description. (Note: your Title will show as an H2 heading. Your description will appear just below the heading)

[uw-rss-feed url="https://somesite.wisc.edu/events" title="Events from Some Site" description="This list will show events from Some Site" more-link="https://urlgoeshere.com" max-posts="x"]

  8. Add a link back to the main site by pasting the original URL into the more-link area

[uw-rss-feed url="https://somesite.wisc.edu" title="Events from Some Site" description="This list will show events from Some Site" more-link="https://somesite.wisc.edu/Events" max-posts="x"]

  9. Set your max number of posts to list (Tip: We suggest a limit of 5)

[uw-rss-feed url="https://somesite.wisc.edu" title="Events from Some Site" description="This list will show events from Some Site" more-link="https://somesite.wisc.edu/Events" max-posts="5"]

  10. Publish your page

Google Calendar

Google Calendar allows you to integrate multiple calendars into one primary calendar. This primary calendar can then be shared via a WiscWeb site via embed code.

This option will display your events as an actual calendar on the page.

  1. Use Google's instructions for adding multiple calendars into one
  2. Follow the steps listed in WiscWeb - WordPress UW Theme - Embed A Google Calendar to embed the primary Google calendar into your WiscWeb page
