Updating and Restarting WSB Devices

Select your operating system below for instructions on how to check for updates on your WSB device.

Windows 11

Automatic Updates on Windows 11 WSB Devices

  1. Your WSB Windows 11 device should prompt you to update. When you see the WSB update pop up on your screen, simply select "Restart Now", and click OK.
  2. You can also find update notifications indicated by a green icon in your System Tray, on the bottom right corner of your desktop. 

Manually Check for updates on Windows 11

  1. Click on the Start Menu.
  2. In the Search bar type "Updates" then select "Check for Updates"
  3. Click on the caret icon next to "Check for Updates" and select "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update".
  4. Wait for the updates to install, and then select "Restart Now". 

Windows 10

Automatic Updates on Windows 10

  1. Your WSB Windows 10 device should prompt you to update. When you see the WSB update pop up on your screen, simply select "Restart Now", and click OK.
  2. You can also find update notifications indicated by a green icon in your System Tray, on the bottom right corner of your desktop.

Manually Check for Updates on Windows 10

  1. Click on the Start Menu, and then on the Settings icon.
  2. Click on Updates & Security.
  3. On the Windows Update page, select "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update".
  4. Wait for the updates to install, and then select "Restart Now".

MacOS Ventura & Sonoma

Manually Check for Updates

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click General in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click Software Update on the right.
  3. If Software Update find new software, click the Update or Upgrade button to download and install it. You will be asked to enter you administrator password, which is the password you use to log in to you Mac. During installation, your Mac might show a progress bar or blank screen several times.
  4. Your Mac will restart to complete the update.

Set your Mac to Update Automatically

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click General in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click Software Update on the right.
  3. To set update options, click on the Info button for Automatic updates, then do the following:
      • Turn on "Check for updates".
      • Turn on "Download new updates when available".
      • Turn on "Install macOS updates".
      • Turn on "Install app updates from the App Store".
      • Turn on "Install Security Responses and System files".
  4. Click Done.

If you don't see any Software Updates

  • If Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, then no new software is currently available for your Mac model. Software Update shows only software that is compatible with your Mac. 

MacOS Monterey and earlier

Manually Check for Updates

  1. Choose the Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Software Update .
  2. In the System Preferences window, select Software Update.
  3. If Software Update find new software, click the Update or Upgrade button to download and install it. You will be asked to enter you administrator password, which is the password you use to log in to you Mac. During installation, your Mac might show a progress bar or blank screen several times.
  4. Your Mac will restart to complete the update.

Set your Mac to Update Automatically

  1. On your Mac, choose the Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Software Update .
  2. To automatically install MacOS updates, select "Automatically keep my Mac up to date".
  3. Click Advanced, then do the following
    • Select "Check for updates".
    • Select "Download new updates when available".
    • Select "Install macOS updates".
    • Select "Install app updates from the App Store".
    • Select "Install system data files and security updates".
  4. Click OK.

 If you don't see any Software Updates

  • If Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, then no new software is currently available for your Mac model. Software Update shows only software that is compatible with your Mac.
