Annotating PDF materials in OneNote
OneNote allows you to import PDFs directly into your notebook, so you can draw and annotate directly on the document.
Import and annotate a PDF:
- Open the website which contains the PDF document
- Click document link
- If using Canvas, click the "blue text" link - clicking the "file preview" icon will open a small preview window, which will not allow you to continue
- The PDF will open on your iPad's screen
- Tap the document screen and quickly press the blue “Open In ..” (located in the top left corner of the document)
- Scroll the middle line to the left until you see “Copy to OneNote”
- Do not select the "OneNote" icon (as compared to “Copy to OneNote”) as this option will not allow you to create an annotate-able document
- OneNote will then load (you may need to first log in to your campus account
- You will be presented with a list of existing notebooks:
- Select a notebook
- Select a tab
- You will then be asked for two options: Attachment and Printout
- Select Print Out: By selecting this option, OneNote will convert the PDF to a series of images by which you can annotate/draw on.
- If you select Attachment, the PDF file will be uploaded as a standalone file that you can later open, however you will not be able to annotate/draw on it.
- Once converted via the Printout option, you will be taken to your imported PDF document: You may start editing.
- Please remember that any editing that you do to your document is located as a local file on your iPad: To make your document available to the cloud, you will first need to sync it.
