To connect wirelessly to the displays in the Finance and Analytics Lab and any of the Active Learning Classrooms in the Learning Commons, you need to install a small free app in your device first. You can connect any device with wireless capability like laptops, tablets and cellular phones that use Windows, Android, Apple OS or IOS.

How to install and use the Solstice Client?

The client is easy to install and does not require administrative access to your laptop or other devices. Here's how to do it as well as how to use it for connecting to said display.

On the Finance and Analytics Lab:
  1. On the Control panel press the "Wireless Video" button.
  2. Make sure your device is connected to the UWNet Wireless Network
  3. Follow the prompts on the monitors to download and install the Solstice App-- Enter the displayed URL and install the Solstice app through the website.
  4. Once installed and opened, click on the Enter IP tab in the client and type the same IP# that is on the display (128.104.234.xxx).
  5. In the next window, enter the four character key that is on the screen.
  6. Depending on the device you are using, you'll have different options of what you can display on the screen. For laptop users, select Share Desktop.

Troubleshooting
If the Solstice screen does not appear after pressing ON and Wireless Video, press the HDMI (Wall Plate) button on the wall control. If you don't see it say HDMI2 on the screen, then there is no power running to the display. Contact ATW for follow-up.

If the Solstice screen does not appear after pressing ON and Wireless Video, press the HDMI (Wall Plate) button on the wall control. If you do see it say HDMI2 on the screen, then the Solstice Solstice Pod located behind the display is not functioning properly. Students will still be able to connect to the display using an HDMI cable plugged into the wall plate. Contact ATW for follow-up.

If Solstice screen is showing, but student's device is not connecting, use library laptop to check if you can connect. If you are able to connect with that laptop, then the student's device:
  • May not be connected to UWNet
  • May need to have the Solstice Client closed and then reopened
  • May need to have their whole device restarted
Beyond that, offer to checkout a library laptop or, if they have an adapter, suggest that they connect using an HDMI cable.

Audio
Audio will play out of the wall display when you connect wirelessly or with an HDMI cable. Volume can be adjusted on the device or on the wall control

Troubleshooting
  • If audio does not play out of the wall display when you connect wirelessly, check the Solstice client to make sure that the Audio from Desktop button is toggled ON. You may need to close and restart your video/audio file if you find that the button was previously OFF.
