WiscVPN (Mac) - Configuring the Native Client

This document provides WiscVPN configuration instructions specific to Macintosh OS X 10.6. Previous versions of OSX do not support a native connection to WiscVPN and should see the following document: WiscVPN (Mac) - Downloading and Installing the VPN Client

To configure the native OSX 10.6 VPN client to connect with WiscVPN, do the following:

1. Open the System Preferences. This can be done by either clicking on the System Preferences icon in the Dock or by going to Apple Menu -> System Preferences.
   
   
2. Open the network pane by clicking the Network icon.
   
   
3. Click the Create a new service button. It is the plus symbol at the bottom left of the services panel.
   
   
   
   
   
   
4. In the window that appears, enter or select the following:
   • Interface: VPN
   • VPN Type: Cisco IPSec
   • Service Name: type a name for the connection you are using, such as WiscVPN-OnCampus or WiscVPN-OffCampusStatic
     
     
     
   
   
5. Back on the main screen, enter the following:
   • Server Address: wiscvpn.doit.wisc.edu
   • Account Name: NetID username
   • Password: leave blank
   If you would like quick access to this connection, check the Show VPN status in menu bar
   
   
   
   
   
   
6. Click the Authentication Settings... button and enter the following in the window that appears:
   • Shared Secret: for dynamic IP, enter: vpnw1sc2002     for static IP, enter: 3crf5byh
   • Group Name: enter in type of connection:
     • dynamic IP, On Campus network: WiscVPN-OnCampus
     • static IP, On Campus network: WiscVPN-OnCampusStatic
     • dynamic IP, Off Campus network: WiscVPN-OffCampus
     • static IP, Off Campus network: WiscVPN-OffCampusStatic
