University Committee Meeting Minutes

Also present: Greg Bump, Michelle Felber, Lesley Fisher, Noel Radomski, Jane Richard, Jake Smith, Susan Thibeault, and Bill Tishler

Chair Wolf called the meeting to order at 1:46 pm

Minutes for the meeting of University Committee Meeting Minutes 2021-04-26 were approved by consent.

Tracy moved to go into closed session; it was seconded and approved at 1:48. 

Masters moved to go into open session; it was seconded and approved at 1:58. One tenure clock extension and one leave of absence were approved.

Steve Ackerman, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education, reported that they were looking to transition research labs to allow for more people in campus by eliminating the square foot requirement per person. Romnes and Kellet professorships will be announced soon. He also indicated that there are some new FAQs and a new powerpoint to address confusion about the Conflict of Commitment policy. 

Rebecca Blank, Chancellor, reported on Commencement which will happen on Friday, May 8. About 5000 undergraduates of 5500 and over 1200 graduate and professional students will attend the two events. They are also planning a celebration September 17-18 for last year’s graduates that will be held in Camp Randall and include a concert and a brunch in Alumni Park. 

Talks about how to return to campus in August continues. It is not going to be easy to break the new habits everyone has developed over the past year and a half. It’s predicted that 80% of those eligible in Dane County will be vaccinated by the end of May. She is hoping that there will be a lower level of anxiety in returning to campus towards the end of summer. 

Chair Wolf adjourned the meeting at 2:46.
