Initiating a proposal
Email the CHM Research Administrator (Alyssa Gerarden, agerarden@wisc.edu) as soon as an opportunity is identified. Ideal lead time is 2 months from the submission deadline. In the email, please provide the following information:
- Notice of Funding Opportunity link
- Submission deadline
- Sponsoring Agency or Foundation
- UW PI name(s), if different from email sender
- Subaward information (incoming and outgoing), if applicable
- Other UW department involved, if applicable
- Brief lay summary of the proposed project/program
Additional information to include, if known: proposed project period; high level budget details; other key personnel; proposed vendor contracts; clinical trial status; foreign involvement.
Alyssa will review the information and get in touch to discuss timeline, process, requirements, etc.
Basic timeline expectations
At a minimum, the College of Letters & Sciences requires a complete budget and justification ready for their review 1 WEEK ahead of the planned submission date. Proposals must be complete and ready to submit 2 BUSINESS DAYS ahead of the planned submission date. Not adhering to these required schedules can result in late submissions.
The budget deadline above also includes any outgoing subgrants/subcontracts that must be incorporated into the prime applicant budget. Additional time will need to be built-in for the sub organization(s) to prepare their materials for institutional routing & approval ahead of UW budget processing.
UW Subaward Requirements for Proposal
Budget development
Detailed budgets are required for all funding proposals, per UW policy, regardless of sponsor requirements. Please email Alyssa to request the current version of the grant budget template to begin building your budget. Higher levels of budgetary assistance can be provided upon request.
