PREAMBLE

Educating extraordinary health professionals is fundamental to achieving every aspect of our academic medical center’s mission. Our learners provide clinical care, research, and leadership, today and tomorrow. This strategic plan focuses Academic Affairs efforts on five strategic priorities, outlines planned key actions, and guides future decisions.

ENVIRONMENT

Our learners and therefore Academic Affairs are responding to a dynamic social and political environment. The Strategic Priorities and Action Plan as published reflect the continued impacts of the pandemic and the racial reckoning that we have experienced. We expect ongoing environmental disruptions and will continually reassess and reprioritize in response.

OBJECTIVES AND MEASURES

By emphasizing efforts aligning with our Strategic Priorities, Academic Affairs intends to accomplish these objectives.
  1. Learners and staff learn and work in a culture of equity, belonging and wellbeing.
          MEASURE: Learner and staff survey results
  1. Outstanding supportive services across programs lead to student wellbeing and academic success.
          MEASURE: Retention, unplanned delays
  1. Our IT and analytics infrastructure enhances the experience of learners and faculty and provides the data and analytics needed to support continuous quality improvement.
          MEASURE: Staff, Faculty and Learner usage of applicable dashboards.
  1. Inefficiencies, redundancy, and administrative overhead are minimal.
          MEASURE: “program” vs “admin” FTE
  1. Philanthropic funding of scholarships and services for our learners has grown. 
          MEASURE: Scholarship dollars per student.
  1. Faculty, staff, and learners feel their accomplishments and contributions are recognizes, and rewarded.

  1. Students and faculty are committed to improving health in under-served communities.

RELEVANT PRIOR ACHIEVEMENTS

Increased the proportion of students with life experience and professional objectives relevant to populations underserved by medicine.

Assimilated the MGCS and MPH programs into Academic Affairs, forming a community of shared expertise and resources.

Established the Building Equitable Access to Mentorship (BEAM) program to support URiM MD students and build a community of URiM faculty.
