How do I protect my data?

While CAE does not have a general service for backing up departmental servers or desktops, we do have some recommendations that might help.

You can store primary copies of your data in your CAE home directory. Within the college, there is fast and reliable access from any desktop or laptop. That data is stored in two locations (replicated) and backed up as well.

For personal backups (of laptop data, for instance), we recommend installing Box sync using the UW service. Standard starting quota is 50GB and more can be requested. Box is provided by the University, and is useful for collaboration as well. Information for this is available at: https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=33229

If you have servers and systems that have other backup needs, or you require a large amount of space, DoIT offers Bucky Backup. Many groups in Engineering utilize this service.

Your departmental support person (DSP) may also be able to discuss other options. A list of DSPs can be found here: https://kb.wisc.edu/cae/page.php?id=25482
