AIMS - Adding Network Printers to a PC
This article shows how to add a network printer to a PC under the aims.wisc.edu domain. PCs under the aims.wisc.edu domain.
Method 1
- Click the Start or Search button on the task bar.
- Type \\aims-prt-01 and hit Enter.
- Use \\aims-prt-01.aims.wisc.edu for computer from legacy L2 departments (names using service tag, not DOIT/AIMS####)
- On the window that appears you have two options to search for the printer you want to add:
- Scroll through the list to find the desire printer(s).
- Closer to the upper right side of the window there is a search box to enter the printer by name (ie: fpm-clr-001).
- Once you have located the printer you want to add, right-click on it and select Connect.
- A processing dialogue box will come up, when it disappears the printer has been successfully added to your view.

Method 2
- Click the start button, then the click the Gear icon to open Settings.
- Click Devices.
- Click Printers & scanners.
- Click Add a printer or scanner.
- See if the desired printer shows up in the list. If so, click it and click Add Device (you are now finished). If not, scroll to the bottom of the list and click The printer that I want isn't listed.
- Option 1
- Check the Find a printer in the directory, based on location or feature radio button and click Next.
- Find the printer and click OK.
- Option 2
- Check the Select a shared printer by name radio button.
- In the box type in \\aims-prt-01 and you should now be able to browse all of the printers on the print server.
- Use \\aims-prt-01.aims.wisc.edu for computer from legacy L2 departments (names using service tag, not DOIT/AIMS####)
- Select the printer and click OK.
- Option 1
- The printer should be now mapped. Repeat this process for any additional printers.
