UW System Administration has provided guidance on how to submit asset records in order to satisfy Asset Reporting Policy and Standard, 1035 and 1035.A.
On January 7, 2022, UWSA sent a letter to all campuses providing guidance on IT Asset Reporting, UWSA Policy 1035 and Standard 1035.A.
UW-Madison's Division of Information Technology and Office of Cybersecurity have sponsored a campus effort to gather inventory information from campus partners to meet the reporting requirements on behalf of UW-Madison.
The UWSA policy specifies fields that should be collected for hardware and software assets, yet these fields present significant challenges to UW-Madison where a variety of tools and systems are used to track and manage IT assets across campus. Therefore, we are focusing on a limited number of fields that tools of wide utility are capable of reporting, to deliver useful data to UWSA with a practical approach.
We anticipate UWSA will review the UW-Madison data along with other campuses, and evaluate changes to the policy or other solutions which may be required in the future.
UW-Madison is required to annually provide to UWSA csv files of our IT asset inventory. DoIT will act as the liaison for this process, and has created a central repository for gathering and reporting UW-Madison IT asset data.
Information on how to satisfy this UW System Policy and Standard can be found here - https://kb.wisc.edu/asset-reporting/93378.
