CALS DDO - Points of Contact - Dean's Leadership Team

This document outlines the points of contact for the dean's leadership team within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Overview:

The dean's leadership team is comprised of the dean and associate deans from CALS administrative units and provides administrative leadership for the College of Agricultural & Life Sciences and the Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station.

Staff:

Glenda Gillaspy, Dean and Director
  • Supports and promotes the college's educational, research, service, Extension/outreach, and economic development activities
  • Leads college strategic planning and priority alignment efforts
  • Directs the college's fundraising campaign
  • Advocates and serves as liaison to campus leadership and other deans on issues that have impacts in the college and beyond
  • Chairs the CALS Academic Planning Council and CALS department chair meetings

Irwin Goldman, Interim Senior Associate Dean

  • Serves as primary point of contact for departments and UW-Madison administrative units on faculty matters
  • Manages all activities related to CALS faculty, including hiring, probation, leave, salary adjustments, professorships, and post-tenure activities
  • Works with the dean on policy issues, long-range strategic planning, and change management
  • Leads climate, diversity, and inclusion efforts to include recruitment and retention for faculty and staff, and climate and equity initiatives
  • Provides oversight for facilities, planning, health and safety, and international programs in the college
  • Serves as ex-officio on the CALS Global Committee, Committee on Academic Staff Issues, and Equity and Diversity Committee
  • Administers, manages, and supervises the college's research enterprise, including the Research Division and the agricultural research stations
  • Oversees compliance and assurance with funding agencies
  • Oversees animal care and use, biosafety, intellectual property, invention disclosures, and the responsible conduct of research within CALS

Louis Macias, Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Oversees the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion within CALS, and provides collegewide leadership for activities related to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Developing and/or reviewing policies and practices that contribute to the recruitment, retention, and success of underrepresented students, staff, and faculty
  • Enhancing inclusive teaching practices and supporting research excellence
  • Partners with institutional leaders, faculty, staff, students, and other constituency groups to ensure programming aligns with the college’s values and strategic goals

Paul Mitchell, Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

  • Manages the Office of Academic Affairs, including program reviews, curriculum and course development, and assessment for all academic programs in the college
  • Oversees student services (for prospective and current undergraduate, graduate, and Farm and Industry Short Course students), including international education, career services and internships, scholarships, and study abroad. This also includes services specific to undergraduate students, such as transitional advising and dean on call.
  • Oversees the TA allocations process, Instructional Lab Modernization funding, summer session planning, and college commencement planning

Douglas Reinemann, Associate Dean for Extension and Outreach
  • Provides leadership for the organization, content, and effectiveness of Outreach and Extension activities in the college to ensure that these activities are timely and integral to Wisconsin
  • Coordinates collaborations between CALS and the Native Nations of Wisconsin
  • Oversees activities of Extension funded CALS centers
  • Serves as liaison between Division of Extension leadership, CALS leadership, and CALS faculty and academic staff who are funded all or in part by the Division Extension 
  • Administers budget contracts between the Division of Extension and CALS
  • Coordinates prioritizing and filling faculty and academic staff appointments in CALS that are funded all or in part by Division of Extension 
  • Promotes synergies between outreach activities in CALS and other colleges and responds to stakeholder questions about and requests for outreach activities

Troy Runge, Associate Dean for Research

  • Responsible for administration, management, and supervision of the college's extramural grant programs, including compliance and assurance issues
  • Primary contact with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education for campus and national research policy, and with WARF on patent disclosures and intellectual property issues
  • Administers, manages, and supervises the college's research enterprise, including the Research Division and the agricultural research stations

  • Oversees the college's administrative operations of CALS Business Services, CALS Human Resources, CALS IT, and the Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station
  • Plans, directs, and manages strategic planning initiatives for college finance and administrative functions
  • Develops, recommends, and implements approved policies and procedures, and ensures strategic alignment
  • Responsible of all aspects of college budgeting, financial planning, human resources, data management, information technology, and post-award financial operations, compliance, and audits
  • Responsible for all funds distribution, balances, expenditures, and reporting for the college

Heidi Zoerb, Associate Dean for External Relations and Advancement

  • Oversees college external relations efforts and stakeholder relations, including government relations and alumni
  • Leads the college communications team and effort, including Grow magazine, press releases, op-ed pieces, and social media accounts
  • Advises the dean on matters related to the college's public interaction and image
