Overview


CALS Human Resources assists and supports departments/centers/units and employees throughout the college in all aspects of employment, workforce relations, compensation and titling, talent management, and payroll/benefit services.

Staff:

Mark Rickenbach, Senior Associate Dean
  • Responsible for management of the CALS faculty, including hiring, promotion, tenure and post-tenure activities. Primary point of contact for departments and UW-Madison administrative units on faculty issues and manages the college's administrative team.
Carol Hillmer, Associate Dean for Human Resources
  • Oversees the operations of CALS Human Resources. Plans, directs, and manages strategic planning initiatives for college human resources functions. Develops, recommends, and implements approved policies and procedures, and ensures strategy alignment. Serves as the CALS liaison to the campus Office of Human Resources, Benefits Services, and Legal Services.

  • Partners with Mark Rickenbach and Carol Hillmer in advising college leadership (i.e., dean, senior associate dean, and other members of the senior staff) on all matters relating to faculty personnel
  • Responsible for oversight and coordination of college level workforce related issues, including but not limited to performance, staff misconduct, harassment, hostile and intimidating behaviors
  • Assists Carol Hillmer with planning, implementation, and management of strategic initiatives for college human resources functions
  • Partners with Cheryl Bowes and Justin Sills in implementing, operationalizing, and monitoring the use of approved policies and procedures, and ensuring strategy alignment
